Kanagavel Manickavasagam He presently serves as Director, Gastropro, Head of the teaching Department of General, Gastrointestinal and Minimal Access Surgery at St Isabel Hospital, Chennai. Kanagavel Manickavasagam graduated with honors from Government Kilpauk Medical College and postgraduation from Madras Medical College Chennai. He has obtained DNB, MNAMS, MRCS Ed and FRCS from Glasgow. He did his senior residency in Surgical Gastroenterology at Government Royapettah Hospital under the leadership of Prof S M Chandramohan. He has special interest in foregut surgery, complex corrosive stricture reconstruction, endoscopy and advanced laparoscopic surgery. He is currently a PhD research scholar in Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, Chennai. His unique initiative of Weekly National Postgraduate Clinics in General Surgery has more than 21.4K active subscribers and 780K views. He serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Minimal Access Surgery, he currently a member of the Editorial Board of the Indian Journal of Surgery, Executive Member of the Association of Colon and Rectal Surgeons of India, Association of Surgeons of India, Tamilnadu Chapter. He is the Chair of International Affairs for of the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo Surgeons. His original work on the influence of TP53 in esophageal carcinogenesis was recognized with Sundaram Award of the TNASI in the year 2003. He has been awarded 14 research grants which include international travelling fellowships by the Japan Surgical Society, Japanese Association of Thoracic Surgeons, International Society of Surgery and International Society for Gastrointestinal Oncology.
