Dr. Winnie Ong is a Consultant Clinical Geneticist and Paediatrician at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, the national referral centre for inherited metabolic diseases, genetic disorders and hereditary cancers in Malaysia. She obtained her MBBS from the University of Melbourne Australia, and Paediatric specialty from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, UK. Her Clinical Genetics Fellowship was in Ministry of Health, Malaysia and Manchester Centre For Genomic Medicine, UK. Dr. Winnie has a special interest in Dysmorphology, Syndromic Eye Genetics and Cancer Genetics. She is currently the clinical lead for the Cancer Genetics service and a member of the Lynch Syndrome Working Group in HKL. Dr. Winnie also participated in writing the Malaysian Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) on Breast Cancer and Management of Thalassaemia. She strongly supports genetic counselling and teaches in the Masters in Medical Science (Genetic Counselling) programme. Dr. Winnie is also a member of the WHO Collective Global Network for Rare Diseases Panel of Experts, and actively advocates for individuals with rare disorders.
